Busy Mind ~ March

What’s with your name?
I share my work under the title Kate Perreault Art. My last name is different. It can be confusing. As we go through life, we change. Creativity makes me feel like me. Operating under my “first name” acknowledges the pieces of my foundation standing steady as I grow over time.
Why “Busy Mind”?
It is how it sounds. I have a lot of ideas and things I want to do to help people connect, talk about cool stuff and share background info about my pieces. This is a flexible platform. The name speaks to all the random topics and things that are found when your mind is full of ideas.
“Home is where the art is”
I used to move a lot. Sometimes for school and sometimes for work. Other times just because. I started gifting my parents a picture of where I was living each year. It’s now a library of memories - from “remember getting the couch up that staircase?” to my own experiences of home ownership.
In ending an era, starting fresh, or remembering “where it all started,” I want to help you celebrate the places your favorite chapters took place. Fun fact: if you are a realtor, these are a great closing gift!

Jordan's Jungle
Located in a historic mill building at 545 Pawtucket Ave., in Pawtucket, RI, Jordan's Jungle is a 10,000 sq. foot tropical oasis for plant people! Owners Jordan and Shawn demonstrate a prime example of lifting up others. They provide a platform for local makers by hosting a wide variety of markets and themed events year round. Come for a collection ranging from standard houseplants to the exotic and rare, and stay for the goodness of a local business uplifting its community.
Jordan's Jungle is where I set up one of my first table setups...It was great! I highly recommend reaching out if you are new to markets and are looking for a comfortable and communicative first show experience.

Tips for starting artists...
Take the extra time.
Events usually offer a block of setup time before the official start. Even if your setup is simple and you’re confident that you can do it quickly, it never hurts to arrive on the earlier side of that window.
It gives you time to adjust your layout to the space you are assigned and displays around you.
It lets you troubleshoot any last minute obstacles like a forgotten display stand or environmental perks… including but not limited to uneven ground, wind, insufficient lighting, or having to walk your items a long distance from your car to the actual event space.
It gives you time to introduce yourself to the event organizers, volunteers, artists around you, and get a glimpse of the different types of work around you.
There are almost always people casually meandering around before the official event start time. Sometimes they are simply curious, other times they are scoping out the goods before the rest of the crowd comes. Be ready to sell at least 10 minutes before the official start.
